3 Things To Check On Your Air Conditioner And Heater If It Isn't Working Right
If your air conditioner and heater just doesn't seem to be working right, check on these three things to see if they fix the issue.
#1 Make Sure Your Breaker Has Not Been Tripped
The first thing that you should check on is your breaker if your air conditioning and heater will not turn on at all. This is a really simple check. All you need to do is find your electrical box, open it up, and check the breaker that belongs to where your air conditioning unit is plug into. If the breaker for some reason was flipped to the off position, turn it back on and see if your unit will start up. If your breaker keeps getting thrown, you may need an electrician to come out and look at your electrical system.
It is always a good idea to check and make sure that your unit is getting power when it will not turn on; it is an easy check that will not take you much time.
#2 Check Your Thermostat
Second, check your thermostat and make sure that your thermostat is at the right temperature. If someone bumped into it and turned the thermostat up or turned it off, that could be the entire reason why your air condition is not working.
If your thermostat is operated on batteries, check and make sure that the batteries are still working right. You may want to replace the batteries to see if that fixes your thermostat issues.
If your thermostat is hardwired into your house, check and make sure that you are getting power to that part of your home. You can also use a voltmeter to check and make sure that those wires are getting power to them. If it is a power issue, you just need to address that first and see if that fixes the issue.
#3 Change Out Your Air Filter
Finally, one of the biggest culprits behind many air conditioning and heater issues are air filters. When your air filter gets worn out and dirty, not only is it not able to properly filter your air, it also can influence the overall condition of your air condition system. Your entire system can get stressed out and not work as effectively as possible due to an old filter.
All it takes to solve this issue is either cleaning your filter if it can be cleaned or replacing the filter. Do this first and see if it fixes your air conditioning issues.
If none of these quick fixes make your air conditioning work again, you may need to call up an air conditioning and home heating repair technician to further troubleshoot the issues with your system.
