Keep Your Septic System Running At Peak Capacity
There are many things that can go wrong at home, but having a sewage pipe burst or having a septic tank get backed up is about as bad as it gets. It is not very fun having to clean up sewage. The best way to keep from having to do this is to prevent any sewage problems. Most of the preventive maintenance is easy, but it can go a long way in helping ensure that you do not have a septic problem. So, here are just a few of the best ways to avoid a septic problem.
Careful What You Use The Toilet For
Your toilet is for two things; toilet paper and sewage. If you are using your toilet for anything else, you could eventually have a clog. Some of the common items that are flushed that should not be are condoms, paper towels, hair, and food items. Simply put, these are the items that should be going in the trash right next to the toilet. Anything that is not biodegradable should not go into the toilet. These things can get caught in a pipe and cause it to eventually build up and burst. Or they can sit in a septic tank and fill your septic tank with non biodegradable things. You do not want this.
Clogged drains are something that will happen, but you should be very careful how you unclog them. There are many chemicals that are on the market that will blast through a clog. However, just because they will blast through a clog does not mean that you should use them. These chemicals can kill the bacteria that thrive in the sewage system. These bacteria live and actually help break down the sewage. If you kill these bacteria cultures, your system is not going to run as smoothly as it should. Instead of using a chemical, it is better to use a snake to unclog the drains.
Plumber
Once a year it is a great idea to have a plumber come and look at the overall condition of your sewage system. Most of the time a person will not call a plumber until it is too late, but if they are able to perform simple maintenance once a year, you may avoid a big problem in the future. The plumber can come in and make sure that all pipes are still good and that your septic system is running at peak capacity so septic tank repair is not required.
